Q. I can receive and download email, but I cant send anything out !
|
|
A. One of the most common reasons for being able to receive and download email, but not being able to send it is that many of the Internet Service Providers (ISP's) like SBC and Verizon are now blocking port 25. Port 25 on the internet is outbound email. They "claim" they are doing this in order to reduce spam, however most large spammers have their own servers anyway.
Blocking port 25 does not effect the sending of email through webmail programs. This only effects PC based mail clients like Eudora, Outlook and others.
If you google "blocking port 25" you will get almost 3 million references. Many people are upset about this as very little, if any, notice was given.
In order to resolve this, what you need to do is change your email programs SMTP port from 25 to something else. For clients of GetMySiteOnline.com we have set up port 366 to also handle outbound email. For email users of other webhosting companies, you will need to contact your company and see if they provide an optional other outbound SMTP port than 25.
If you are using Eudora Email, you can view their knowledgebase article on this located at :
